PATENT

At Araripe & Associados, we are focused on advising our clients on the ways of protecting their inventions and enforcing their patent rights, as well as providing our assessment of the validity of competitor’s patents.

A significant portion of our practice is devoted to protecting new technologies in the area of biotech, medical devices, wireless communication and chemical compounds. For that, Araripe & Associados counts with engineers with post-graduate qualifications in these fields, some of whom have previously worked at our Patent and Trademark Office, as examiners.

The proximity with the Brazilian Patent Office (INPI) allows our practitioners to have extensive interaction with the examiners, visiting them to personally discuss our client’s matters.

Our services include:

-         conducting novelty and infringement searches;

-         advising on the patentability of inventions;

-         preparing, filing and prosecuting applications;

-         providing advise on issues such as amendments, examination actions and application split;

-         advising on infringement and ways of designing around third party’s rights to avoid it;

-         submitting and defending from oppositions;

-         filing and defending actions for the revocation of patents;

At Araripe & Associados  we are constantly devoted to understanding the client’s commercial objectives in order to help it achieve a successful cost efective result. For that, we will work with the client to determine the optimum strategy and the proper convention or co-operation treaty in order to obtain the best scope of protection, both domestically and abroad.
